Professor John Hill and PhD student Rose Baker were both speakers at the Irish Screen Studies Seminar at Ulster University, Belfast, 7-8 May 2024. John delivered a keynote address on Irish screen studies in tribute to his friend and former colleague, Martin McLoone, a pioneer of both Irish film and television studies. Rose spoke about her research on Ulster Television in the 1960s, focusing in particular on the TV listings magazine, TV Post. Rose’s research has been undertaken as part of an AHRC-funded TECHNE Collaborative Doctoral Award involving the Centre for the History of Television Culture and Production, Northern Ireland Screen and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. The Irish Screen Studies Seminar was originally founded in 2003 by John and his collaborator, Kevin Rockett, of Trinity College Dublin, with funding secured from the Higher Education Authority’s North South Programme of Collaborative Research.
