Screenwriting PhD success

TV Centre associate, Lydia Yeoman has successfully passed her PhD entitled ‘Magical Realism, Emotion, and Gendered Television Forms: A Practice-Based Enquiry’. Her thesis, supervised by Professor Adam Ganz, examines the emergence of magical realism in American prime-time television during the 2010s, and its links to masculine forms of television and displays of “emotion” on screen. This analysis is accompanied by scripts for her own female-centred ‘magical realist’ television series, Confinement (which was one of ten chosen for the Thousand Films’ initiative to uncover up-and-coming female writers in 2019). Lydia is currently a freelance screenwriter and was the lead writer on the Paramount Plus series Curfew which dropped on 10 October 2024.
